The Market may offer fewer temporary jobs for Christmas
Estimates from the Brazilian Confederation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC - Confederação Nacional do Comércio de Bens, Serviços e Turismo) point out that retail will open fewer vacancies for temporary workers for the Christmas Season. According to the CNC, 72,700 temporary employees are expected to be hired. This number represents a reduction of 1.7%, compared to last year.
The institution also considers that the economic slowdown is due to the scenario of uncertainties from the second-half of the year. Such uncertainties are still responsible for a possible drop in retail sales which, by Christmas Season 2018, is likely to have a smaller growth. The forecast is for a turnover of R$ 34.4 billion.
The largest number of employees hired may happen in the clothing segment (47.9 thousand places) and hypermarkets (11.5 thousand vacancies), which are considered the “huge employers" of retail - together they represent 42% of the industry, these segments usually account for 60% of Christmas sales on average.
